Are You Considering a Bathroom Remodel? Consider All the Steps Involved
There is no question that a bathroom remodel is a big project and that there are many decisions to make along the way. At Mission Tile West we can help provide you with stunning tiles that you will not find anywhere else. We also want to ensure that every client knows the steps involved in a remodel and that they are prepared. In some cases, it may be best to simply install a new floor rather than gut the room and redo it entirely.
It starts by demolishing your current bathroom
This day begins with a sledgehammer and ends with a ton of dust and debris. You’ll get rid of old tiles, take down mirrors, get rid of cabinets, remove the floor, vanities – etc. If there is any rot under the subfloor then that will need to be addressed. It is also a good time to check for plumbing issues, to see if the windows should be replaced, etc.
Start putting things back together again
Once you have everything removed then it is time to put up the things you want. This likely starts with hanging drywall after having it cut to fit around your new room layout. Make sure it is coated with a waterproofing material. Then paint. A semi-gloss finish can help avoid mold and mildew issues in the past.
Next, you start tiling. You should tile your floors, your bath, your shower, the walls – anywhere you have decided to add interesting tiles. This is a detail-oriented job and requires some skill. You must accurately measure, cut the tile, and get them into hard to reach corners. You can do it by reading online resources but make sure you have the right tools including spacers. This may also be a step that it is worth hiring someone for.
Do the final touches
In most remodeling projects, the “final touches” may include touchups or other simple steps. This is not the case with a bathroom remodel. Final touches include installing lights, the toilet, the vanity, etc. We call them the final touches because until they are done, it may feel that you are miles away from being done. The truth is that your bathroom will start to take shape very quickly once you start installing these fixtures.
It may be well worth hiring the professionals
There are some projects that are fun or relatively easy to do yourself. A major bathroom renovation may not be that project. Remember that if you are moving the vanity, bathtub, toilet, or any other fixture that needs water, that you will have to make changes to your plumbing. If your bathroom is particularly old, then you will need to make changes to your wiring. In short, it can be a difficult process for someone without experience.
Whether you do it yourself or bring in the professionals, one thing is for sure: Mission Tile West has all the tiles you need. No matter the style, shape, size, or color you want, we can help. Call us today at 626-799-4595 or stop by our showroom for details.
